Mimi and George flying round the cross country
Mimi and George flying round the cross country

We are very proud of Head Groom Mimi Jones - she completed her first ever 4* at Bicton International Horse Trials last week, and came an amazing 21st. George has been home produced up from 90cm to completing his first 4*, and doing brilliantly too. The dressage and show jumping went well, but it was at the cross country that he really shone, storming around a tough track with just one frangible pin down, and also being one of the fastest times around the course. It was a fantastic first outing at this level, and we are all looking forward to see what this partnership can achieve in the future.

Before we bought Rosegarth and started the partnership with Ellie, I was determined to go paperless, for contracts, invoices, and yard management too. The first few things have been fairly easy - we use electronic signatures for all of our livery and staff contracts, and all receipts and invoices are on our accounting software, Xero.

Without having done any research I was sure that there would be an app to manage the yard, so that we could drop the physical yard diary and the very high tech yard sheets (evidence below). Previously there was a yard sheet for every horse, every month, so this soon created a lot of paper.

Paper yard sheet

Well, it turns out there are apps available, a few from the US and also at least a couple built in the UK. We trialled the 2 UK ones, and pretty quickly settled on using LIVERYLive. It is very easy to set up and use, has everything we need, and at the start of just our second month of operation we have gone fully digital!

Not only that, but after we made the decision to use the app, they got in touch and have added Ellie as a sponsored rider, which is amazing. It is early days, but so far we would fully recommend using the app. It is very handy for the staff at the yard, as they can record things there and then, and the website version works well too - I tend to use that when I am at my laptop doing client invoices, to see what has happened at the yard during the previous month.

We already use the yard calendar, staff rota, to do list, noticeboard and feed chart features, and are gradually adding more details about the horses on the yard - when vaccinations, worming or dentist visits are due, for example. There is an option to give owners access so that they can see what is happening with their horses in real time, and we will roll that out in due course.

So far, so good - welcome to Rosegarth, LIVERYLive!
